Red continues to supplant pink as the new It girl color, with celebrities like Kylie Jenner and Emily Ratajkowski championing the hue. On Sunday night in Santa Monica, Sydney Sweeney became the latest star to try her hand with the trend, and she went all in.
The Euphoria actor graced the teal carpet at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards in a traffic-halting red ensemble. Her stunning look consisted of a figure-hugging custom Mônot dress with halter straps that crisscrossed in the back, a daringly low-plunging neckline, and a floor-grazing column skirt with a center-cut slit going up the back. She kept things monochromatic with a pair of strappy red satin heels and accessorized with sparkly diamond-adorned rings and large diamond stud earrings. For beauty, Sweeney glammed up with a sultry smoky eye, dark eyeliner, light pink blush, and a matte mauve-pink lip, and styled her long golden-blonde tresses down in soft waves with her middle-parted curtain bangs framing her face.
Sweeney was up for Comedy Movie Star of the Year, for rom-com Anyone but You (which she ultimately lost to Jennifer Lawrence, for No Hard Feelings)—and also part of a surprise live performance at the award show.
She took the stage with costar and fellow nominee Glen Powell, who looked dapper in a double-breasted gray suit jacket over a white tank top, matching suit pants, and dark dress shoes—and then, in a surprise appearance, singer-songwriter Natasha Bedingfield, who looked lovely in an orange, pink, and red dress with flouncy ruffle detailing throughout. Together, the trio sang a bit of Bedingfield’s 2004 hit “Unwritten,” which moviegoers will know plays a big part in Anyone but You.
The People’s Choice Awards were just the latest of Sweeney’s fabulous red-carpet appearances. Last week, promoting new film Madame Web, she embodied another trend: spidercore. For the superhero movie’s premiere, she stepped out in a jaw-dropping custom corset dress from Oscar de la Renta. The centerpiece featured a nude bustier bodice, decorated with a weblike design composed of tiny black crystals, that transformed into a waterfall of crystal-embellished fringe, which she paired with strappy black heels. Keeping on brand, she added a ring that looked like a spider crawling on her finger.
